Description

The Atoma Advanced Diamond Sharpening Plate #1200 Grit is an excellent substitution for a #1000 grit whetstone, offering a longer-lasting sharpening plate with comparable results. This diamond plate is designed to provide a similar edge sharpness and finish as a traditional whetstone.

One of the key advantages of the Atoma #1200 is that it never needs flattening or correcting, ensuring a consistently flat surface for sharpening. Its performance is equivalent to a #1000 whetstone, and the sharpness achieved is similar.

Additionally, the Atoma #1200 can be used for light lapping work on higher grit stones, as it only removes small amounts of the whetstone surface. However, it is recommended to use a dedicated lapping plate for higher grit stones to maintain a clean and even surface for optimal results.

Atoma Diamond Sharpening Plates are produced by Tsuboman, a highly regarded Japanese manufacturer known for their refined diamond products. The plates are made of mono-crystalline diamonds with a cutting abrasive surface mounted on a 10mm thick stainless steel base. The base is machined to be extremely flat, ensuring the diamond plate remains flat throughout its use.

The Atoma plates are renowned for their exceptional quality and durability, featuring precision-made surfaces with high uniformity. Even after extended sharpening sessions, these plates maintain their flatness. If needed, the diamond plate can be replaced after a few years without having to purchase another baseplate, thanks to its strong double-sided tape adhesion.

The Atoma Diamond plates can be used dry or with water, depending on personal preference.
